Which Tournament Should You Enter?

Badminton tournaments are organised in a clear hierarchy — from beginner open events all the way to international professional circuits. Here's where you fit in.

Level 1 — Beginner

Open Tournaments

via Play-Matches

Open tournaments are for beginners and learning intermediates. State top-100 players are not allowed to enter. The best starting point for anyone new to competitive badminton.

Karnataka State Tournaments

via KBA

State-level tournaments organised by the Karnataka Badminton Association. Players who perform well in open tournaments progress to compete at state level.

All-India Tournaments

via BAI

Players who excel at state rankings progress to the national circuit — competing against the best players from across India. A BAI ID is mandatory at this level.

BWF World Tour

What Is A BAI ID & Why Do You Need One?

BAI stands for Badminton Association of India. A BAI ID is your official player registration number — mandatory for competing in any official tournament.

Your Official Player Identity

A BAI ID is a unique identification number issued by the Badminton Association of India to every registered badminton player in the country. Without a BAI ID, you cannot participate in any official state, national or international tournament.

Think of it like an Aadhaar card for competitive badminton — it's your proof that you are a registered player, your age has been verified, and you are eligible to compete in your category.

Even for beginners starting with open tournaments on Play-Matches, getting a BAI ID early gives you a head start when you're ready to move up to state-level competition.
